The scale of the problem
Take the example of a small Civil Construction or Earthmoving contractor. Lets assume 5 portable tanks, with 10 operational staff that use those tanks, and 50 peices of plant and equipment.
Thats going to equate to:
- 10-20 fuel purchase receipts per week
- 10 sheets of paperwork to trasnfer to the office each week
- approx 50-150 fuel dispensing events, requring entry into a spreadsheet
On the basis that those tanks are 400 litres each, and filled weekly we have,
- Total fuel purchases of (400L x 10 top ups x 40 weeks) = 160,000L
- Approx fuel costs of $300,000 pa
- Total Excise claim of 160,000 * 0.42 cpl = $67,200 in excise recovery
- Missing 10% of those events is a cost of $6,720 pa.
- Missing 50% of these events is a cost of $33,600 pa.
- Costs do not include the administration and labour costs
